It's a Candy Corn Friday

I LOVE Candy Corn. I love the candy and I love the colors. Since the storebought kind is hard on the hips I've created some Candy Corn of my own.

Starting with----

Now tell me--how "cute" is that?

And you know that every cutie needs a cute hat---

Thanks to KrissyWonders for this adorable pattern.

But what if you live in FL and it is still too hot for a hat?

Then you find yourself some cute Candy Corn barrette covers!

Now what to do if your Candy Corn Cutie is a messy Candy Corn eater--

She's gonna need a Candy Corn bib of course!

And last of all you're gonna need something to clean up the Candy Corn mess--

So how about a Candy Corn dishcloth with a couple of Candy Corn Potholders.

And if that's not enough Candy Corn for you-head on over to Someday Crafts  for an eyeful of Candy Corn.
They are hosting Candy Corn Friday and I'm joining in the fun.

BTW---some of these items will be listed in my etsy store--WildflowerKidz.
Stop by for a visit.

Fall in FL

Since so many of you will soon be posting pictures of changing leaves,
I thought I'd share my Fall pics.

This is what Fall in Florida is like for those of us on the east coast----
The tourists are gone
The kids are back in school

The temperature is starting to cool-off

And there are long stretches of empty beach,
just perfect for an evening walk.

The Quilt is Finished!!!

After procrastinating for a few weeks, worried that it would be "too hard", I finally just did it!

I laid out and taped the backing to the floor--

I spread out the batting--

I laid out the quilt top over the backing and batting-

And I pinned it all together--

I machine quilted it-
And here IT is finished---

The front--
And the back--
Although it's not perfect--it is my "1st Quilt Ever"--I'm happy with it.
I LOVE the colors
and most importantly
I learned alot!
I've already started on another quilt!!!

For the Birds---

Looks like there's a new "kid" on the block--
I heard "him" chirping this morning while I was enjoying my coffee on the patio.

As I took a closer look I saw--
A brother or sister-
They look so cute.

Noticed some more movement and then there were--
Three!!

Momma was getting worried--
So I left her alone to tend to her babies-
And I went back to my coffee.

The mail came!

I love getting packages in the mail.

This is from my blogging friend, Lisa, at
She was having a giveaway and I won.

Love the colors!

What is it?
It's a beautiful scarf---

That she knitted herself.
The pictures do not do it justice.
I wish you could see how beautiful it is---and oh-so-soft!

Thank-you Lisa
I LOVE IT!!!
Stop by and visit her.
And while you're there take a tour of her Folly--
Don't know what a folly is-
Then you need to visit and find out.

Sewing Something Sweet

As I said in my previous post, we were invaded by lovebugs last week. It was so bad I couldn't get outside to work in the yard.

So I decided to sit at the sewing machine and make a shirred dress for my little granddaughter. I got the pattern from Whimsy Couture Boutique. She has the cutest patterns and very good instructions.

I had never shirred anything before--it took me almost 4 hours to get the hang of it-

And as you can see--
Several practice swatches--

The first one didn't really shirr at all--

I started to get the hang of it--

Finally I got the elastic thread wound correctly on the bobbin.
And my practice swatch looked like it was suppose to--

Now here is the dress--

This is the front--

 And this is the back---
It's a little blurry. But it is adorable.

I'll be mailing it off to Georgia-
I can't wait to see it on her.

The Love-Bug Invasion

No --

I'm not talking about the cute little Volkswagon "love-bug"

You remember it --

From the movie--

No -- I'm talking insects--

Swarming insects --

Hundreds of them--

Can you see them--

It has been horrible the last few days-

They only live a few days--

"making-love" the whole time--

The female lays her eggs--

Then they die.

I  spent this morning sweeping their little carcasses off my porches.

But the eggs will hatch and  we'll have a whole new batch. Usually in September. Something to look forward to.

And you thought Florida was all beaches, sun-tans and oranges!

The Quilt--the work continues---

I've been working on getting my quilt pieces together

I've finished the quilt top-
I wasn't sure I was going to like it but once it was all sewn together I like it alot-

This isn't really a very good picture but the colors of the blocks and the border really make me think of fall.

This is the fabric and the pieced strip for the back. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this fabric. I might have to go back to JoAnn's and buy some more.

This is the binding--all 240" of it!

I still need to sew the pieced strip to the backing--

After reading Care's last post about putting the quilt together I'm starting to get worried.

I've come this far--
Hope I will be able to make it to the finish line--

May Flowers--

I've been busy working in the yard this past week--

So have the bees--

I've never had roses before but last year Publix had little pots of miniature roses--
So I bought a few--

I can't believe they made it through the winter but here they are blooming in their pots on my patio--

There's a white one--

And a yellow one--

And a red one---

I think they are so pretty and delicate--being so small--
Maybe my "green thumb" is coming back--

The Quilt----

The work on the quilt continues---

Putting together the 17" squares---
Sorry--Care--I had to pin--

I forgot to take a picture of the 17" squares sewin together--but this is the layout that I did--

Next I cut the 17" squares into 4  8.5" squares

Then laid them out in the Disappearing Nine Patch Pattern---

I was too "structered" when I sewed the squares together which it made it more difficult to lay them out without like fabrics touching--next time I will be more random.

Now the rows are stacked, marked and ready for the next step--

I am hoping the 1/4" presser foot I ordered will be here today--I need to get the rows sewed together and the seam markings on my machine are pathetic. It was hard to keep the seam straight. I hope to be working on this tonight.
